INDIGENOUS AND OTHER PLANT LIFE – 2020

The abstract nature of the work is significant since it honours the modernist ethos of universality and timelessness. Despite the fact that separate panels constitute the work, there is a unified whole in the work, through the orchestration of colour and tone.

DEFORESTION AND GLOBAL WARMING – 2019

I keenly follow the effects of Global Warming, including the fires in the Amazon, which are destroying the forests. I have used black as a metaphor for fire and solid, clean geometric shapes for regrowth and optimism.

ARCHITECTURAL INVASIONS -2018

Here I am now engaging with linear and geometric shapes and forms that inter-relate with the mark making on the surface. I am reflecting the degradation of the natural environment by the urbanization that is dramatically encroaching the landscape of Johannesburg, creating architectural invasions.

TREE TAPESTRIES -2017

Here I am now engaging with linear and geometric shapes and forms that inter-relate with the mark making on the surface. I am reflecting the degradation of the natural environment by the urbanization that is dramatically encroaching the landscape of Johannesburg, creating architectural invasions.

CAPTURING THE MOMENT INDOOR OUTDOOR / TREE SERIES -2015/16

I dwell on walking from outdoor / indoor and the comforting textiles that envelope me. I talk about the influence of nature on the textile and convergence of design and nature in the forest and in the textile.

CELTIC TREE / INDIVIDUAL TREE – 2017

Rather than work from the generic concept of a tree, I have been more specific in accessing the soul of particular kinds of trees. Referring to the ancient Celtic symboism that was used as an alphabet, I have brought into existence personal metaphors of the feelings associated with those trees. Thus each painting evokes a specific mood that connotes that kind of tree.

HONOURING PAINT AND MARK MAKING- 2013/14

I needed to play and be free with my painting. I decided to work large and allow my mind to play and my hand to be spontaneous. I created veils of paint that wash and spill and pool on the canvas. At times rivulets are formed as they establish planes and shapes, creating a special dynamic both across the surface and backwards.

HONOURING DOMESTICITY- 2011/12

Snapshots taken of my surroundings and unexpected nuances in my space, are the ideas I use to capture the intimacy of my life. These are the sources for my composition in my artworks.

FRAGMENTS OF AFRICA- 2010/11

These works marked my excitement of painting full time. They were started in the year of the World Cup in South Africa. They were table tops of still lives, created from the beauty of South Africa and its surroundings.
